Ethane Tank Opening, 27th of September – Ineos, Scotland

The European biggest ethane storage tank (60.000m3) was officially opened on the Ineos Plant at Grangemouth site in Scotland.

The opening was accompanied by the berthing at the Grangemouth terminal of a ship carrying 27,500m3 of ethane from US shale fields. This is the first time that ethane from US shale gas has ever been shipped to the UK.

The erection by SMM of this tank, during the last two years, will revitalize the Grangemouth site, which is one of the Europe largest ethylene cracking facilities which process approximately 4% of total European capacity.

SMM ended once again, a contract with great success, having received from his client, TGE, several acknowledgments of the quality of their work, particularly in the areas of safety, quality and productivity.

The conclusion of this project is another important milestone in the SMM activity, which have been considered the most important player in Europe on the erection of cryogenic tanks.
